Norwick Up Helly Aa
Norwick Up Helly Aa is the second Up Helly Aa to occur on Unst each year. Celebrations start early, with the full Jarl Squad getting their suits ready for the day and night. Day celebrations entail the Jarl and his Squad visiting local families and businesses in Unst.
Evening celebrations begin early with the procession where the Jarl Squad and approximately 200 other 'guizers' light their torch and get the singing underway. The procession concludes with the burning of the galley, where traditional Up Helly Aa songs are given and the galley is set alight.
Celebrations in the Haroldswick Hall go on until late, with the squads performing acts and Shetland music taking a full hall into dance. No tickets are required to view the procession, however be sure to get your ticket before heading to the hall.
