Uyeasound Up Helly Aa
Uyeasound Up Helly Aa is the first Up Helly Aa to occur on Unst each year. Morning celebrations with the Jarl Squad happen throughout the island, including the annual visit to the Baltasound Junior High School where locals, children and Vikings gather for a few hours. This is often the first sighting of the themewear and galley!
Evening celebrations begin early with the procession where the Jarl Squad and approximately 200 other 'guizers' light their torch and get the singing underway. The procession concludes with the burning of the galley, where traditional Up Helly Aa songs are given and the galley is set alight.
Celebrations in the Uyeasound Hall go on until late, with the squads performing acts and Shetland music taking a full hall into dance. No tickets are required to view the procession, however be sure to get your ticket before heading to the hall.
